I believe this is my most successful image from the Dozen Photo Challenge:

I believe this image was so successful due to the back lighting in combination with a colorful hollow glass sphere. The sheet I draped over a lamp also provided a warm hue to the picture which in my opinion is very eye catching. I also think the back lighting made the sphere look more celestial and similar to a planet or a mysterious glowing orb.
The most challenging aspect of this assignment was deciding what to photograph. When I took these photos, it was cloudy outside, so I opted to take pictures inside with random things I found in my house. I think this decision made for a more interesting variety of pictures, but it was difficult to know where to take the pictures to get the best lighting and exactly what angles I should use to capture the different aspects of composition, lighting, and black & white images.
In the future, I will consider how composition, lighting, and the use of color or black & white contribute to capturing a subject’s emotion or mood, helping me create stronger images.

Hi Jordyn, I was drawn to this image due to the analogous cool colors mixed with a low perspective approach. I think photographing these flowers like this in a low light environment creates a sense of mystery. I think the close up of the flowers with a blurred background of the house makes for a photograph with good depth. I think the soft focus is also nice for this image since it is calm and mysterious. I like the amount of saturation used and how soft the image is. The exposure, contrast, and color saturation all work for the image. The only thing I can think of doing differently for this image is possibly using a filter on the image to make it even more mysterious (if you wanted to go in that direction).

Wow, I love the way this photo turned out. It immediately caught my eye. Both the subject and the background leave a lot up to interpretation. The backlight enhances the orange background, bringing a feeling of warmth. The glass ball appears almost as though it is full of liquid, similar to lava. The close-up bull's-eye perspective makes something so ordinary appear so unique.
I am drawn to this image because of the complex yet simple range of colors that give the viewer a warm feeling. You did this through the use of backlighting, which is done perfectly. In addition to that, you used a unique object to backlight and photograph. The ball shape object, I believe, also attracts the reader as it is something out of the ordinary yet still comforting. I have no recommendations for the future. Great Job!
The photo that caught my eye the most was your low perspective of the Eiffel Tower figure. For me, it reminds me of when I looked up at the Eiffel Tower myself. It gives, to me, a very similar perspective. The lack of other subjects draws my focus to the main subject of the photo. The warm colors emit a cozy and warm mood, and the brown wooden background provides depth for the subject. The blur effect does make parts of the Eiffel Tower a little out of focus. You could adjust the automatic focus to make the tower clearer if you would like to.
The use of side light on the skull photo peaked my interest because it created an atmosphere of mystery. By taking a bull's eye composition it emphasized and focused on the subject, drawing the viewer in. The choice of making the photo black and white also allows you to see the details, which would be less empahsized if the image was in color. If you wanted to invoke more mystery, you could have included a smaller hidden object, but its not necessary.
I am drawn to this image because of its vibrant and warm color palette that is enhanced from the back lighting. You were able to compose the photograph in an interesting way by the use of the back light that allowed the orbit to glow from within and show the swirls/ and patterns that are displayed on the orbit. This image evokes feelings of warmth, calm and almost like gazing into a miniature sun.
